Paving

In England you generally don't need planning permission if the surface is permeable, or if surface water is directed to a soakaway or border rather than running off onto the road. Non-permeable driveways over five square metres that drain straight onto the highway usually do need it. We install permeable paving and can advise on which applies to your property.

Decades, if the sub-base is right. Almost every failed driveway we're called out to relay failed underneath rather than at the surface, which is why we spend the time on excavation, sub-base preparation and drainage falls before a single block is laid.

Porcelain gives a flatter, more contemporary finish with very low porosity, so it resists staining and algae well — it's popular for patios. Block paving is more robust under vehicle loading and easier to lift and relay in sections, which makes it the usual choice for driveways. We install both.
